Celebrating Golf's Positive Impact Across the Keystone State

Pennsylvania's golf industry has an incredible story to tell.

On Friday, July 10, spearheaded by the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP), golf organizations from across the Commonwealth will come together for 2026 Pennsylvania Golf Day—a coordinated, statewide advocacy effort designed to highlight the many ways golf positively impacts Pennsylvania's economy, environment, and communities.

While golf is often viewed simply as a recreational activity, it is also one of Pennsylvania's largest tourism drivers, a significant economic engine, and an important community partner. In 2026, the Commonwealth will once again take center stage as one of the nation's premier golf destinations, hosting several prestigious championships, including the PGA Championship, the U.S. Amateur Championship, the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, and the Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic. These events will showcase Pennsylvania golf to a worldwide audience while generating millions of dollars in tourism and economic activity.

Beyond championship golf, Pennsylvania's golf industry contributes an estimated $6.3 billion annually to the state's economy and supports more than 60,000 jobs. From course maintenance professionals and PGA Professionals to hospitality workers, equipment suppliers, landscapers, architects, and countless local vendors, golf creates meaningful employment and supports communities in every region of the Commonwealth.

Pennsylvania is also home to approximately 740 golf facilities—each operating as a local small business. These facilities serve as gathering places where families, friends, and visitors connect while supporting restaurants, hotels, retail businesses, and local tourism.

Perhaps most importantly, golf continues to make a meaningful difference far beyond the fairways. Thousands of Pennsylvanians are introduced to the game each year through programs such as PGA Jr. League, Drive, Chip & Putt, First Tee, PGA HOPE (veterans outreach), PGA REACH (workforce development), the Philadelphia PGA Foundation, and Special Olympics. Golf courses across the state also host thousands of charitable outings and fundraising events annually, generating millions of dollars for local nonprofits, schools, healthcare organizations, veterans' groups, youth programs, and countless community causes.

Pennsylvania Golf Day provides an opportunity for the industry to come together with one unified message:  Golf is much more than a game. It is a vital contributor to Pennsylvania's economy, environment, tourism, and quality of life.
