About the Award

In line with the NGCOA Golf Course of the Year Award, the PGO Golf Course of the Year recognizes a golf course that epitomizes exceptional course quality and management excellence while making important contributions to its community and the game of golf. The award is presented annually in two categories: Public Golf Course of the Year and Private Golf Course of the Year.

Eligibility & Deadlines

How the Award Process Works

The Golf Course of the Year process begins with eligibility confirmation and nominations, followed by a short questionnaire for nominated courses.

Eligibility

To be eligible, the golf course must have been a PGO Member in good standing for at least the past year.

Nominations

Anyone from a PGO Member Course or Corporate Member may nominate an eligible course. Self-nominations are accepted.

Due by May 31

Questionnaire

Nominated courses will be asked to provide brief answers to questions based on the award criteria.

Due by June 30

Review

The Board and/or Awards Committee will review submissions and select the PGO Golf Course of the Year honorees.

Awards are presented each fall at the PGO Annual Meeting.

Exceptional Quality of the Course

Recognizing outstanding course conditions, presentation, playability, and the overall golf experience.

Exceptional Ownership & Management

Recognizing leadership, operational excellence, reinvestment, staff culture, and long-term stewardship.

Outstanding Community Contribution

Recognizing the course’s role as a local employer, gathering place, community partner, and contributor to the local economy.

Significant Contribution to the Game

Recognizing programs, initiatives, leadership, or advocacy that help grow and strengthen the game of golf.

Nominee Questionnaire

Nominated courses will be asked to provide brief written answers to the following questions. Responses should be no more than two pages total.

  1. Please describe the golf course conditions and guest experience at the course being nominated, and why the course deserves to be recognized for this award.
  2. Please describe any recent changes to the golf course and how these changes have impacted the success of the course. Examples may include course improvements, programs, technology, services, staffing, operations, or other investments.
  3. Please provide an overview of the quality of the golf course ownership and/or management.
  4. Please provide an overview of the course’s contributions to the local community.
  5. Please provide an overview of the course’s contributions to the game of golf and/or the golf industry.
