A New Crystal Cup to Be Unveiled at the PGO Fall Conference

The PGO Crystal Cup will once again be contested on October 5 at Out Door Country Club in York, PA, as part of the 2026 PGO Fall Conference.

Teams representing the East and West will square off in a two-person net scramble, with one ultimate goal: capture the coveted PGO Crystal Cup and secure bragging rights for an entire year as to which side of Pennsylvania is better for golf.

Of course, the Crystal Cup is about much more than golf.

The East vs. West format provides a great opportunity to meet fellow golf course owners, operators and industry leaders from across Pennsylvania. We introduced this format last year, and the camaraderie it created—both on the golf course and well into the evening—was exactly what we hoped this event could become.

But there is one small issue heading into this year’s competition….We need a new Crystal Cup.

A Little Crystal Cup History

The Crystal Cup was established in 2009, with the inaugural event held at Wyncote Golf Club, home of PGO Founding Father Jim Pepple.  From there, the tradition continued:

2009 – Wyncote Golf Club

2010 – Iron Valley Golf Club

2011 – Edgmont Country Club

2012 – Par Line Golf Course

2013 – Huntsville Golf Club

2014 – Wyncote Golf Club

2015 – Highlands of Donegal

2016 – Broad Run Golfer’s Club

2017 – Tanglewood Golf Course

2018 – Linfield National Golf Club

2019 – Toftrees Golf Resort

As part of this tradition, the PGO acquired a priceless trophy crafted from what we can only assume was an extremely rare form of crystal.

The original format featured four-person teams representing PGO Member golf courses, all competing for the honor of taking the Crystal Cup home for the year.

But then came COVID.  Like many traditions, the Crystal Cup was put on hold during the pandemic, and the event disappeared from the PGO calendar.

The Crystal Cup Returns…With a Twist

In early 2025, the PGO Board decided it was time to bring the Crystal Cup back. But in keeping with the Board’s vision of better connecting the golf community across the entire Commonwealth, the event was reinvented as an East vs. West competition.

There was just one problem.  Nobody knew where the Crystal Cup was.

Considering the trophy’s obvious and immeasurable value, this was quite disturbing.  After several months of investigation, numerous inquiries and what may have been the most extensive search in PGO history, the mystery was finally solved.

Chris Grasmick of Golf Cart Services / E-Z-GO had it safely stored in his wine cellar.  Apparently, that’s where you keep priceless Pennsylvania golf artifacts

With the trophy located, we were confident the Crystal Cup would make its triumphant return at Carlisle Country Club for the 2025 PGO Fall Conference.  Understanding its extraordinary value, Chris refused to risk shipping it. Instead, he personally delivered the Crystal Cup with the utmost care and security.  (See photo for evidence of this highly sophisticated security operation.)

East vs. West — The New Era Begins

On October 7, 2025, 60 golfers comprising 30 teams—15 from the East and 15 from the West— competed in the newly formatted Crystal Cup.

The competition was fierce (??), and when the final putt dropped, the East had captured the Cup!!

But the real victory was what happened around the competition.  Golf course owners, operators and industry partners who may have started the day as professional acquaintances spent the afternoon competing together, sharing stories and plenty of laughs. By dinner—and certainly by the time everyone migrated to the pub—many had developed genuine new friendships.

Naturally, the Crystal Cup became the centerpiece of the celebration.  The East captain proudly brought it to dinner and later into the pub, where golfers from both East and West had an opportunity to admire—and perhaps even “savor”—the newly reclaimed trophy.

It was exactly the kind of camaraderie the PGO hoped this new format would create.  Success beyond all expectations!

The Mysterious Demise of a Priceless Trophy

The last anyone remembers seeing the Crystal Cup that evening, it was safely in the arms of the East captain as he returned to his hotel room.  And that’s where our story takes a rather unfortunate turn.

At the start of the PGO Conference the following morning, word began to spread.

Somehow…Somewhere…During the overnight hours…the base of the priceless PGO Crystal Cup had mysteriously cracked and become detached from the rest of the trophy.  The damage was beyond repair.

To this day, the exact circumstances surrounding this tragedy remain a mystery. And, primarily for the personal safety and reputation of the East captain, the PGO has elected to keep his identity confidential.  The case remains open.

A New Cup. The Same Great Tradition.

While the original Crystal Cup may be gone, the tradition it represents is very much alive.  So, on October 5 at Out Door Country Club, we will proudly unveil the NEW PGO Crystal Cup as the East and West once again battle for Pennsylvania golf supremacy.

But if last year’s event taught us anything, it’s that the trophy isn’t really the prize.  The prize is getting golf course owners, operators and industry partners from across Pennsylvania together—competing, exchanging ideas, building relationships, sharing some laughs and maybe staying in the pub a little longer than originally planned.

And that spirit will continue throughout the entire two-day PGO Fall Conference, October 5–6.

Come play for the Cup. Stay for the Conference. Meet some new people. Reconnect with old friends. Share some ideas. Have some fun.

And help us continue making our PGO mantra a reality:  LET’S GET BETTER TOGETHER!

One final request: whoever wins the new Crystal Cup this year…please handle it with care.
