PGO Executive Director Ron Stepanek was in Minnesota this week to assist with the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
More than 3,000 athletes from across the nation have traveled to Minnesota for a week of competition, courage, and celebration. Golf is one of 16 sports featured at the Games, with 175 athletes competing for medals across five different levels of competition, ranging from individual skills events to a 72-hole individual stroke-play championship. Stepanek served as one of the lead on-course rules officials.
Shown in the photo is Brian Quinn of Team Pennsylvania alongside his caddy—his father. How fitting that the duo also had the opportunity to spend Father’s Day together on the golf course during the practice round, creating memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.

As part of the festivities, the Opening Ceremony featured inspiring traditions, incredible live performances by Demi Lovato and Jon Batiste, and a stadium filled with pride, energy, and possibility. These Games are much more than a sporting event—they are a powerful celebration of what can happen when an entire nation comes together through sport, inclusion, and the pursuit of excellence.
The PGO is thrilled that our Executive Director had the opportunity to be part of this incredible national championship. More importantly, we are proud of all the athletes, golfers, and members of Team Pennsylvania.
