How a Surprise Voicemail Turned into an Unforgettable Experience at Honeybrook Golf Club

What would you do if you received a voicemail saying Bryson DeChambeau wanted to film an episode of his wildly popular Break 50 YouTube series at your golf course?

Oh, and there was one more twist. Bryson wanted to play with an Amish golfer!

Would you think it was a scam?

That was certainly the initial reaction at Honeybrook Golf Club, a long-time PGO Member course in Chester County, Pennsylvania, when a production company representing the two-time U.S. Open champion left a rather unexpected voicemail.

Fortunately, the Honeybrook team decided to do a little research before dismissing the call. And after confirming the inquiry was legitimate, they returned the message.

Little did they know they were about to become part of a truly unique golf experience!

The Perfect Setting

So, why Honeybrook?

As it turns out, the production team discovered the course through a Google search. And it’s easy to understand what caught their attention.

Honeybrook’s website offers this inviting description:  “Once you cross the Brandywine Creek to Amish Corner, you’ll escape from the outside world and hear nothing but the clip-clop of horse-drawn buggies and the chirping of the birds.”

That was exactly the setting Bryson and his team were looking for.

As conversations progressed, Honeybrook’s management focused on understanding the production team’s goals and expectations. But one priority stood above everything else: ensuring the Amish community and its traditions would be portrayed with the utmost respect.

It didn’t take long for the Honeybrook team to recognize that Bryson’s group was genuine, professional, and equally committed to approaching the experience respectfully.

With that important concern addressed, the next challenge was finding the right golfer.

Enter Anthony!

Honeybrook had someone in mind: Anthony, a 24-year-old avid golfer from the local Amish community.

The production team arranged an interview, and Anthony’s personality seemed like a perfect fit.

Then came the question about his golf game.  When Anthony shared that he typically shoots between 75 and 85, the production team knew they had found their guy!

But Anthony had another idea. Could he bring along a few of his regular golfing buddies, all with similar abilities?  Absolutely!

Before anyone knew it, the original concept of Bryson playing with an Amish golfer had evolved into a full foursome of talented Amish golfers ready to take on the Break 50 challenge.

More Than Just a Round of Golf

As plans developed, it was Bryson himself who encouraged the experience to become something more than another golf video.  He wanted to learn about the local Amish community, experience its traditions, and share that culture with his audience.

And what better way to begin than traveling to the golf course in a horse-drawn buggy?

The adventure also included a visit to September Farms, a family-owned and operated market that serves as a gathering place in the community.  While there, Bryson didn’t just look around. He even made his way into the kitchen to help make pretzels, plus he ate a few donuts along the way!

What started as a golf challenge was becoming a memorable cultural experience, blending golf, community, and a little unexpected fun.

Lights, Camera, Golf!

Eventually, it was time to tee it up at Honeybrook.

To accommodate filming, the course strategically scheduled the visit on a day when a shotgun outing would occupy the morning, leaving the entire course available in the afternoon.  That was important. Bryson’s production team needed an open golf course to capture the action without interruptions.

They also requested that the visit remain as quiet and low-profile as possible. The goal was to avoid drawing unnecessary attention and allow everyone to enjoy the experience naturally.

Honeybrook did its best to keep things under wraps.

Of course, when one of the world’s most recognizable golfers shows up at your course, keeping a secret isn’t always easy!

By the time the group completed its 18 holes, a small gathering of members, staff, and even a local high school golf team had assembled.

And this is where Bryson made another lasting impression.

Despite a long day of filming, he graciously took time to meet everyone, pose for photographs, and sign autographs.  For the Honeybrook team, Bryson’s willingness to engage with their golf community was a highlight of an already extraordinary day.

So, Did They Break 50?

After all the planning, interviews, buggy rides, donuts, and 18 holes of golf, there was still one very important question.

Did Bryson and his Amish golfing partners actually Break 50?

Well, we’re not going to spoil the ending!  You’ll have to watch the episode to find out.

But regardless of the score, this was clearly a winning experience for Honeybrook Golf Club, the local Amish community, and everyone involved.

What began as a suspicious voicemail turned into an opportunity to showcase a beautiful golf course, introduce viewers to a unique community, and create memories that will last well beyond the final putt.

And that brings us back to our original question.

What would you do if you received a voicemail saying Bryson DeChambeau wanted to film at your golf course?

For Honeybrook Golf Club, returning that call turned out to be a pretty good decision!

Sometimes, the most unexpected opportunities begin with simply picking up the phone.
